Music will fill the air and activities for children will be set up downtown on June 1 for the "Art" Of Love to benefit Love's Kitchen. And that's just the tip of the iceberg according to organizer Ruthy Irvin.
Love's Kitchen, located at 1914 18th Avenue, is open Monday through Saturday, serving breakfast and lunch for the hungry. The operation began serving meals in 1983.
Cole said funding currently comes mainly from churches and private individuals.
Del Rendon and the Rum Drunks will perform at the benefit. Rendon is an art instructor at Mississippi State University. The group is a five-man club band based in Starkville. The debut CD from the group, "Chameleon," is available in music stores throughout the state and at live performances.
Irvin worked to organize the event through the Love's Kitchen board's publicity and public relations committees.
Steve Gillespie is a staff writer for The Meridian Star. Call him at 693-1551, ext. 3233, or e-mail him at sgillespie@themeridianstar.com.
