Former Lauderdale County Schools Superintendent David Everett, 58, of Bailey, is the new principal of King's Academy Christian School.
Charlie Haynes, King's Academy School Board member, has been serving as principal of the school on an interim basis. Everett said the board approached him to take the position. "I've tried retirement a couple of times, but it's too early for me I guess," Everett said.
Everett served as superintendent of county schools from 1992-1995. He earned his bachelor of science degree in elementary education and his master's of education in school administration from Mississippi State University. He also holds a 10-year vocational director's license and he is certified in adult education.
Everett has served as a District Scout Executive with the Boy Scouts of America. He has taught and served as a principal on the elementary school level and for the Choctaw Tribal School System. Everett was also formerly the Adult and Vocational Education Administrator at Meridian Community College.
Everett and his wife, Jeanette, a teacher assistant at West Hills Elementary School, have two children  a grown daughter, Paula Everett of Meridian, and a son, Jay Everett, who just graduated from West Lauderdale High School.
