This week is being celebrated as National PTA Teacher Appreciation Week. Meridian Public School District teachers and teacher assistants were recognized Wednesday during a Teacher Appreciation Day activity held at the Frank Cochran Center in Highland Park.
Dr. Janet McLin, superintendent of Meridian Public Schools, said the district wanted to focus attention on its teachers and the outstanding contributions they make to individuals and the community.
Educators were served ice cream, cake and soft drinks. Teachers with perfect attendance for the last nine-week grading period received book bags donated by local merchants.
Each school in the district featured a table with refreshments and banners decorated the center with expressions like, "Teachers Make All Other Professions Possible," "Together We Make A Difference," "Teachers Have Class," and "Teachers Touch Minds, Shape Futures," which was the theme of the event.
