QUITMAN Resident Sue Sexton has presented the Clarke County Board of Supervisors with plans for a proposed animal shelter.
Sexton is coordinating an effort to build and maintain a shelter, and has asked the supervisors and aldermen from Clarke County's five municipalities to help.
Last month, supervisors said Sexton could use county land across the street from the jail on Highway 512 for the shelter. A building had been on the site and a chain link fence surrounds the property.
Sexton told supervisors during a regular meeting earlier this week that the slab from the old building can be used again. She brought a drawing of a proposed 30 foot by 40 foot building.
Supervisors advised Sexton to obtain estimates on what it would cost to construct the shelter and operate it for a year.
Sexton said she will get the estimates soon.

Met with a representative of Puckett Machinery to discuss whether one of the county's motor-graders was under warranty when work was done.
Considered a request from H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital administrator Fred Truesdale concerning a loan;
Received two bids for a new fire truck for the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department. Sunbelt Fire Apparatus of Fairhope, Ala., bid $139,795 for a truck that is fully equipped, and $122,974 for a truck that has not been equipped. Sunbelt officials said they could deliver the truck in 30 to 60 days. Ferrara Apparatus of Holder, La., bid $140,792 for a fully equipped truck, and $120,740 for truck that is not equipped. Ferrara officials said they could deliver the truck in 150 to 180 days.
