MCC honors HEADWAE award winners

A nursing instructor and a sophomore pre-medical student have been named Meridian Community College's honorees for Higher Education Appreciation Day/Working for Academic Excellence.
The program is better known as HEADWAE.
Associate degree nursing instructor Kathy Foley of Meridian and student Daniel Watson of Toomsuba are MCC's recipients of the award.
Foley has taught nursing at MCC for 22 years. She received her nursing diploma from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans. She also earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi.
The teaching process is rewarding to Foley.
Foley has had numerous articles published in national and state Organization for Associate Degree Nursing newsletters. She has served as public relations director for the National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing and as nominating committee chair for the Mississippi Association for Associate Degree Nursing.
Foley is the faculty advisor for the Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing Student Association. She is a member of the Mississippi Faculty Association and Phi Delta Kappa.
Foley and her husband, Lee, have five children.
Watson is treasurer of the college's Phi Theta Kappa chapter, president of the Wesley Foundation and he is a member of the Baptist Student Union, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and MCC's Ivy League Recruiters.
Watson has a 4.0 grade point average. He is the recipient of the College's ACT Gold Scholarship and The MCC Foundation Sam Nimenitz Mathematics Scholarship. Watson was named as the college's recipient of the Ivy Award for most outstanding sophomore student. He works part-time in the MCC Success Center and he has started a tutoring program for high school students in his church.
He is the son of Linda and Glenn Watson.
