Military volunteers from the Southeastern U.S. gathered Saturday to work on Meridian's 34th Habitat for Humanity house.
Members of the Southeastern Region Military Professional Housing Management Association (PHMA) met in Meridian for their quarterly meeting this weekend. Instead of sitting in meetings all day, they decided to learn about maintenance firsthand.
Fifteen military volunteers joined local Habitat workers: John Bowman and his wife, Roxanne, of Charleston, S.C.; Hettie Hurley of Pascagoula; Joyce Stewart and Jennifer Bartholomew, both of Gulfport; and James Sharpe, Skip Matuszewski, Patsy Ridinger, Sue Doggett, Connie Ethridge and Sheryl Hensel, all of Naval Air Station Meridian.
The crew also included faithful local volunteers Fonda Rush, executive director of the Lauderdale County Habitat for Humanity, Jim Lowe, Wayne Wahrendorff and Jack Lemmons.
Together, the crew painted the interior of the house and installed siding at 4103 Ninth St.
The house is being built for Beverly Burrage. Construction is being funded by The Riley Foundation and Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church. It is slated to be complete by May 25.
