Freedom Fund Banquet set for Saturday
The 16th annual Freedom Fund Banquet and Mother of the Year Contest is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Council of Organizations Building, 814 45th Ave.

Author hosts book-signings
Author Paige Cothren will hold book-signing Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Books-A-Million, and from 3-5 p.m. at Bookland in Bonita Lakes Mall. He will be signing copies of his latest novel, "So Great the Pretender," a 413-page hardcover love story and spy/mystery thriller set in Bay St. Louis.

Friday-Saturday The Ralph Morgan Rodeo will be held at Ralph Morgan Arena in Lauderdale. Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for children. The rodeo starts at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 679-8861.
Saturday Duffee VFD will hold its annual spring fund-raiser at the fire department, located at the junction of Chunky-Duffee Road and Highway 494 just inside the Newton County line. Barbecue plates will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Orders of 10 or more going to the same place can be delivered. For information, call 986-2071.
Saturday Longstreet Masonic Lodge No. 268 will sponsor a fund-raising barbecue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the lodge. Plates are $4, sold by the pound at $5 and Boston butts are $15 each. For information, call 693-4346.

EMCC Pine Grove Festival begins today
East Mississippi Community College's annual Pine Grove Festival will begin today and continues through May 1. The festival celebrates fine arts with music, art exhibits, literature, theatre and guest performers and is open to the public.
The drama class will perform "A Night of Skits and Sketches" tonight at 7 p.m. in Stennis Auditorium. Admission is $1 for EMCC students, $3 for adults and free for children under 12.
A student art exhibit and sale will be held April 24 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Stennis Hall foyer.
On April 26, at 7 p.m., guest speaker Elizabeth Sarcone will present a lecture, "Myths and Fairy Tales: Not Just for Children" in the Stennis Auditorium.
On May 1, EMCC choral students will perform at 7 p.m. in Stennis Auditorium.
The Pine Grove Festival is financially assisted by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Mississippi Humanities Council.

MLT Spring Variety Sale opens
It's that time again! The Meridian Little Theatre Guild Spring Variety Sale will be held Friday and Saturday. The theatre is located on Highway 39 North. For more information, call Dorothy Torgerson at 482-0930 or the Meridian Little Theatre office at 482-6371.
Agricultural Museum to hold auction
The board of directors of the Neshoba County/Philadelphia Historical Museum will hold an auction Saturday to benefit the Agricultural Museum.
The auction will be held behind the museum at 303 Water Ave. The museum will be open at 8 a.m. for people wishing to view the items for sale. The auction will begin at 9 a.m., and will last until all items have been sold.
The museum will be open Friday and Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. for items to be donated to the auction. Please do not bring clothes or shoes to be auctioned. Bring any household, tools or farm items in good condition.
Kemper Academy presents Elvis show
The "Elvis Presley Show," featuring a 12-member cast with a live band and a sound and light show, will be held Saturday at 7 p.m., at Kemper Academy Gymnasium.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students. Children under 4 will be admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at the Kemper Academy High School office.

Master Gardeners to hold Plant Sale'
East Mississippi Master Gardeners will hold a "Plant Sale" Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Farmer's Market/Train Depot on Front Street and 18th Avenue. Plants will include: Louisiana Iris, herbs, Day Lilies, Antique Roses, Hosta, ferns and many more.
