The Lamar Foundation High School team placed first this year in the Phi Theta Kappa High School Scholars Bowl, held Thursday at Meridian Community College.
Lamar's team was made up of David Culpepper, Chad Nicholson, Pep Speed and Jared McKee. Lamar defeated a team from Meridian High School, 150-135.
MCC has sponsored the scholars bowl for 16 years. The format of the tournament was different this year, according to Jim Dauphne, bowl coordinator.
Six teams entered the bowl competition including two teams from Meridian High School, two teams from West Lauderdale School, one team from Lamar, and one team from Patrician Academy, Butler, Ala.
The MCC High School Bowl was developed after the community college bowls.
