Three Eagles qualify for national track meet

The Meridian Community College track team ventured to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Alumni Gold track meet with hopes of just being competitive against some of the nation's top Division I programs.
The Eagles came back with three more qualifiers for the upcoming NJCAA Nationals Meet in Odessa, Texas.
Eagles Kenneth Wade (100m dash), Dale Moorehouse (400m hurdles) and MCC's 4x400m relay team all put up times worthy of moving on.
Moorehouse, a sophomore, was seventh overall with a time of 54.44 in his event; and he teamed with Ivan Gray, Greg Lambert and Damion Samuels in the 4x400m relay for a seventh-place finish and a time of 3:13.57 beating the host Tigers and Marquette, among others.
Wade, a freshman, was second in his section and 10th overall in the 100m dash with a national-qualifying time of 10.69. He also won his section with a time of 21.78 in the 200m dash.
Among MCC's other finishers:
Sophomore Doella Miller was sixth in her section in the women's 200m dash with a time of 25.86;
Shannon Weaver, another sophomore, was seventh in her section in the women's 400m dash with a time of 59.47; as well as fifth in her flight in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.48;
Maria Smith, a sophomore, was sixth in her section in the 100m high hurdles with a time of 15.24;
MCC's 4x100m women's relay team was sixth overall with a time of 51.10;
Lambert, a freshman, was third in his section in the 400m dash with a time of 50.18;
Freshman Courtney Barlow was fifth in his section in the 800m run with a time of 1:58.88;
Sophomore James Packnet was third in his section in the 800m run with a time of 1:57.09;
Gideon Chepkwone, another sophomore, was eighth in his section in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:08.12; and
Freshman Shedrick Moss finished sixth in his section in the 100m high hurdles after completing his race in a time of 15.19.
