Boys Choir of Harlem performs at USM
The Boys Choir of Harlem will make their Hattiesburg debut at the University of Southern Mississippi at an April 25 concert at Reed Green Coliseum. The concert will begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for reserved seating and $10 for USM facility, staff and students, senior citizens and children under 12. A school group rate is available. Tickets may be purchased through the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 266-5418.
Nurses to hold convention in Meridian
The Mississippi Licensed Practical Nurses Association will hold its 31st annual state convention April 25-27 at the Howard Johnson Inn. Registration for the convention will be at 8 a.m. on April 25, and the convention will begin at 9 a.m. with three full days of professional workshops, business sessions and fellowship.
Eleven hours for continuing education are planned, 10 of which may be used to satisfy the semi-annual CE requirement for the IV Certified LPNs.

Rabies clinic set for May 5
To ensure protection from rabies for cats and dogs, public and private partners will offer a series of vaccination clinics on Saturdays this spring and summer. Lauderdale County's animal rabies clinic is scheduled for May 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Highland Park.
Licensed veterinarians will administer the rabies vaccine at a cost of $5 for each dog or cat. For safety, all animals must be on a leash or in a pet carrier.
St. Patrick School presents MayFest 2001
St. Patrick School will hold MayFest 2001 on May 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the school.
There will be great food, raffles, games, hay rides, a silent auction and live entertainment. The school is located at 2700 Davis St. in Meridian. The public is invited to attend. For information, call 482-6044.
Hilltop Homes collects rummage sale items
Volunteers for Hilltop Home for Boys and Hilltop Home for Girls are seeking items for their annual "Spring Rummage Sale," to be held May 3-4 at the boys' home. All donations are tax-deductible. Items needed include clothes, furniture, knickknacks, appliances and dishes.
Items may be delivered to the boys' home at 7297 Highway 39 North, or the girls' home at 5207 Zero Road. Large donations can be picked up. For more information, call 482-0432.
MSO to present final concert of season
The Meridian Symphony Orchestra will present the fifth and final concert of the 40th Anniversary Season May 5 at 8 p.m. The concert will be held in the Emma McCain Theatre at Meridian Community College. A pre-concert lecture led by Maestro Claire Fox Hillard begins at 7 p.m. in the Casteel Gallery. The concert is entitled "40th Anniversary Grand Finale."
Tickets may be purchased at the door for $15 adults, $12 for seniors/military and $8 for students. Children under 12 will be admitted free. For information, call 693-2224 or e-mail: mdnsymph@mississippi.net. The public is invited to attend.
Redistricting Committee to meet in Meridian
A series of public hearings during May has been scheduled to receive citizens' input into the future shape of Mississippi's congressional and legislative districts. The committee is scheduled to meet in Meridian on May 19, at 5 p.m., at Meridian Community College. The public is invited to attend.
The Joint Legislative Reapportionment and Congressional Redistricting Committee will use information from the hearings to help redraw district lines for the state's four congressional and 174 state legislative districts.
A Web site has also been established by the committee for citizens seeking information about the redistricting process. It contains a schedule of hearings, links to U.S. Census Bureau information and a list of committee members. The Web site address is: www.msjrc.state.ms.us.
EMCC offers parenting workshop
The staff of East Mississippi Community College is offering a series of parenting workshops at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Scooba Campus.
The program, called "Right from Birth," teaches parents how to provide their children with the necessary skills and foundation for future learning and success in school. The series revolves around a collection of 15-minute videotapes, which include interviews with scientists, physicians and educators in the field of childhood development.
Right from Birth is sponsored by Mississippi Educational Television, the Department of Human Services and the EMCC Special Populations program. Mary M. Smith, counselor with the Special Populations program, is the on-site facilitator for the workshops.

Arthritis Foundation to hold public forum
The Mississippi chapter of the Arthritis Foundation will hold a meeting for people interested in helping with an upcoming public forum titled, "Take Control: Assess Your Joint Health."
The forum will be held May 17 in Meridian.
Anyone interested is invited to attend an organizational meeting Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Meridian Senior Citizens Center, 3300 32nd Ave.
