Student expelled

An 11-year-old student has been expelled after authorities found a pellet pistol in his possession on the campus of the Progress Street alternative school.
Sam Thompson, the school district's safety officer, said the pistol was not loaded and the student did not have any pellets in his possession. The gun was discovered about 11 a.m. Friday.
He said a security officer sent to investigate discovered the pellet gun in the student's pocket.
