A Meridian man has been charged with kidnapping in connection with the Thursday abduction of his former girlfriend from a local hospital.
Lt. Wade Johnson of the Meridian Police Department said Kirby Jackson, 34, of 216 30th Ave., is being held on $20,000 bond. Jackson is in custody at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.
Johnson said Kirby is accused of abducting his former girlfriend from her place of employment around 7 a.m. Witnesses who saw what took place notified hospital security, and they notified police, Johnson said.
According to a police report, Jackson allegedly forced his former girlfriend into his car and drove her to a store in Lauderdale County.
The former girlfriend was able to escape with the help of a resident whom she does not know and then notified authorities of her location, he said. Jackson was later apprehended on Highway 39 North by deputies with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department.
