East Mississippi Community College sophomore Jeremy Jarvis has been named to the All-USA Academic First Team for community and senior colleges.
Jarvis, 20, of DeKalb, was one of 20 community college students from across the nation to receive the recognition Thursday during a ceremony in Chicago.
The academic team is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the American Association of Community Colleges and USA Today.
Jarvis, a chemistry major, was also named a Centennial Scholar, an honor sponsored by the American Association of Community College. Only one student from each state receives this honor, based on a scoring system. For this honor, he will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
As a first team member, Jarvis will receive a $2,500 scholarship from USA Today.
