DECATUR East Central Community College will be the starting place for a seven-stop statewide exhibit from the Smithsonian Institute to begin in September.
Other stops on the tour will include the libraries of Petal, Clinton and Walls, and at Tougaloo College and Delta State University. The tour will conclude July 4, 2002, in Meridian and will be sponsored by the Memory Tree Foundation.
The exhibit is a collection of posters that were used to display messages in the United States during World War II. But organizers are hoping to add a local flavor with each stop.
Longtime ECCC instructor Tommy Thrash, chair of the Social Studies division, is heading up the local effort. Thrash said local participation will be encouraged.
Harsh was in Mississippi Monday to see the East Central site for the exhibit. Today, she was to conduct a seminar at the D-Day Museum in New Orleans with representatives from all of the planned sites to let them know what to expect and to help them get started with their planning.
The Produce for Victory tour is being coordinated through the Mississippi Humanities Council.
