Central sweeps doubleheader at Victory Christian

Central Academy took to the road Monday and swept a doubleheader at Victory Christian.
In the first game the Vikings jumped out early, taking a 6-2 lead in the first inning, before winning the contest 12-4. Central added two runs in the second and a run in the third to put the contest out of reach at 9-2.
Chris Rushing (1-0) picked up his first win of the season for Central.
Ken Haley led the Vikings' hitting attack with three hits, including a double.
Drew Powell had two hits, one of which was a double, and Vaughn Gomel had a double.
Game 2, Central Academy 13, Victory Christian 5: Powell led Central at the plate with two doubles and a triple. Haley and Tyler Huerkamp each added three singles. Josh Lash had two doubles; Justin Marrow had a single, a double and a triple; Tony Suthers had a single and a triple; and Gomel had a double.
Along with his two doubles, Lash also picked up the win on the mound for Central.
The Vikings (8-2) travel to Kemper Academy today for a 3 p.m. contest.
Union 4, Nanih Waiya 1: Justin Darby struck out 10 Nanih Waiya batters en route to picking up his third win of the year for the Yellow Jackets Monday.
Darby allowed only three hits and one baserunner in the final six innings as Union improved to 11-6.
Brent Lackwell suffered the loss for Nanih Waiya.
Jody Blunt, Brooks Vance and Jeremy Hamm each singled twice for Union.
Union will play host to a double header with Durant today starting at 4 p.m.
Softball
Clarkdale 21, Noxapater 3: The Lady Bulldogs picked up another impressive win against Noxapater Monday.
Sabrina Woodall, Casey Meador and Kimbo Seale each had doubles for Clarkdale (20-4), while JorD'an Orr, Megan Potate and Ashley Fatcher all tripled for the Lady Bulldogs.
Orr took the win for Clarkdale to up her season tally to 5-1.
Rachel Edwards picked up the loss for Noxapater.
Adria Cremeen had one of the few bright spots for Noxapater with a home run.
Late Softball
Heidelberg Academy 13, Prentiss Christian 6: The Lady Rebels scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning to break open a tight contest in slow-pitch action.
Heidelberg led 8-0 after four innings, only to see the Lady Saints score six times in the top of the fifth to get back in it before HA's five-run fifth.
Danielle Martin had four hits, one a double, and drove in four runs; while Leslie Higdon had two singles, a double and three RBIs to lead Heidelberg Academy.
Shana Thornton added two doubles, a single and one RBI, Ramey McCarra had a single, double and two RBIs, Emily Thornton had two hits and one RBI, Falon Deas had two singles, Suzanne Lightsey had a double, Emily Beddingford had a single and one RBI and Stephanie Sinclair and Courtney Harrington each had a single.
Lightsey was the winning pitcher, while Erin Fortenberry was the loser.
