MCC wins slugfest with Louisville

The Meridian High Wildcats took a 15-12 victory over the Wildcats of Louisville Saturday afternoon before being rained out at Union.
The Union game is tentatively set for either Wednesday or Thursday,
With the win, Meridian improved to 12-7 on the season, while Louisville fell to 7-9. Meridian will host Brandon in a Division 5-5A contest Tuesday, with the game starting at 7 p.m,
Jason Spinks got Saturday's win and is now 2-0, while Kentay Eiland suffered the loss and fell to 0-2.
Multiple hitters for Meridian were John Stevens, who went 5-for-5, with a home run, Richmond Alexander, with two hits, a double and a home run, Sanduan Dubose, who was 3-for-4 with a homer, and John Iverson, with two hits, one a double.
For Louisville, Gabe Snow, Eiland, Marquess Ledbetter, Chris Robinson, and Kevin Glenn all had two hits. Snow and Eiland both doubled, while Eiland, Tyler Rogers, and Robinson all homered.
Meridian jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first, as Alexander, Stevens, Dubose, Iverson, and Ricky McMillian all scored. The inning was highlighted by the doubles of Alexander and Iverson.
Louisville got four in the top of the second on a pair of two-run homers by Rogers and Robinson.
Meridian got five more in its half of the second, making it 10-4, when Alexander, Stevens, Dubose, Iverson, and McMillian again scored. Alexander hit his home run in this inning.
McMillian scored in the fourth, making it 11-4 for the Cats of Meridian.
Louisville cut the lead to 11-7 by scoring three in the fifth. Meridian added two in the fifth on Dubose's homer that scored Stevens ahead of him.
Greg Harris and Stevens scored Meridian's final runs in the sixth, when Stevens hit his home run.
Louisville didn't die, and came back to make a game of it, when the visiting Wildcats scored five runs in the seventh that cut the final magin of victory to 15-12.
Eiland connected with his grand slam to help get Louisville closer.
