Boys and Girls Club names new director

Officials with the Boys and Girls Club of Lauderdale County chose Thursday night's annual fund-raiser and "Celebration of Excellence" banquet as the right time to announce their selection of a new executive director.
Darrell Weir of Columbus, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Lowndes County since 1997, will be assuming the same position here later this month.
Weir is a graduate of the Academy of Boys and Girls Professionals in Atlanta. He is also listed in the 2000-2001 edition of "Who's Who of Executive Professionals."
Mosley said what made Weir stand out were his skills in fund-raising and his ability to create new clubs in the outlying areas of Starkville, West Point and Noxubee County.
Since August, William "Big Mac" McNeil has worked as the club's interim director during the day while also holding down a full-time job at night at Quality Logistics/Fort James.
Cobb praised McNeil for filling in.
Ware was in Meridian Thursday night for the Boys and Girls Club of Lauderdale County celebration at the Frank Cochran Center, and had an opportunity to meet with board members and members of the local club.
