MCC beauty pageant slated for Friday
An MCC beauty pageant will be held at the Emma McCain Theater at Ivy Hall Friday at 7 p.m. The event is a fund-raiser for the campus' student-recruiting group, the Ivy Leaguers. Twenty-seven contestants will compete. The contestants will be interviewed and the program includes casual and evening wear competitions.

MC alumni meeting set for today
All alumni and friends of Mississippi College are invited to attend the Meridian area chapter alumni meeting today at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Friends and classmates of the last 60 years are invited to a special evening of memories, reports from MC and great barbecue. The dinner ticket is $5. Guided tours of Grand Opera House available
Guided tours of the Grand Opera House of Mississippi are being scheduled for Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tours will start every half-hour. The cost is $5.
Make reservations for groups or individuals by calling Pegi Harmon at 482-6127 or Margaret Remy at 485-3278. Walk-ups are also welcome but reservations will ensure that you can take the tour at the time of your choice.
The Grand Opera House is located in downtown Meridian on Fifth Street between 22nd and 23rd avenues. A treasures and trash sale will be held the same day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Marks Rothenberg Building. Only cash will be accepted.
The event is sponsored by the board of trustees of the Grand Opera House of Mississippi.
Jaycees holding membership drive
The Jaycees will hold a season membership drive April 9, at 5:30 p.m., at DT Grinders to recruit people who want to improve Meridian. The Jaycees provide leadership training and community involvement opportunities designed to develop well-rounded, corporate and civic citizens.

Tobacco support group to meet Monday
The Partnership for a Healthy Lauderdale County and the American Lung Association of Mississippi have developed a youth/teen cessation program for smokers as an alternative to school suspension.
An "All About Not On Tobacco" session will be held Monday at 806 Highway 19 North, Suite 385 (College Park Shopping Center). The session will begin at 5:30 p.m. Interested teen-agers ages 12-19 may register at this session, or by phoning the Partnership for a Healthy Lauderdale County at (601) 696-4472.
American Business Women to meet
The Pinnacle Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will meet Tuesday at Western Sizzlin' Restaurant, 1100 N. Frontage Road. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Robbie Hales of The Liberty Shop will present a "Spring Fling" fashion show. Members and guests should order their dinner as they arrive. The waitresses will serve dinner at 6 p.m. Hales has put several outfits together to give the working woman a first-hand preview of spring fashions.
