Wildcats shut down No. 3 Moss Point

The Meridian High Wildcats were able to complete a rain-shortened game in the Hattiesburg Tournament Wednesday.
The Wildcats scored five runs in the first inning that fueled a 13-6 rout of No. 3-ranked Moss Point.
John Iverson threw a two-hitter to lead the Cats to the win. Meridian improved to 8-4 on the season.
Richmond Alexander and John Stevens each went 3-for-4 for the Wildcats. Sanduan Dubose went 2-for-2, had a pair of RBIs and crossed the plate four times.
Ricky McMillian and Kris Barnett both had a pair of RBIs to go along with their two-baggers.
In all, MHS had 12 hits in the five innings.
Both teams committed three errors. The Cats raced out to an 11-0 lead before Moss Point got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning.
Iverson improved to 3-1, while Moss Point's Chad Green's record dropped to 0-1. Maurice Cole also had a double for MHS.
MHS hosts Northwest Rankin in a Division 5-5A game Friday at 6 p.m.
