To our readers

By Staff
If the recent flood of comments and compliments about our "Profile 2001: By the People" edition is any indication of what people like to read in The Meridian Star, stand by for more.
From the man on the street to Sonny Montgomery, folks have loved reading stories about people they know, written by the people who know them best. We have come away from this edition with a renewed sense of what our readership wants to read … more stories about people and fewer stories about institutions.
And we think it's a very positive change.
Oh, that doesn't mean we won't be covering the city council or board of supervisors meetings, but don't be surprised if you find a sidebar or two about how specific decisions made by those boards affect the lives of real people they serve. We will endeavor to bring more information about how these decisions affect our lives and perhaps less about the nuts and bolts of the meetings.
We will try to tell you more about the "who" and the "why," and more about the people who are making decisions on our behalf. In turn, when you have a comment or observation on an item in the news, please share your thoughts with us.
We welcome stories, articles or features that you feel would be of interest to your neighbors. We can't promise to print all of them, but we will do our best to incorporate them into our news pages or a special section.
Again, thank you for your support and encouragement. The Star is, after all, your daily newspaper.
