Resurfacing projects to begin this week

Lauderdale County road resurfacing projects are expected to begin again this week. A number of roads will be resurfaced before county crews begin paving dirt roads again.
Lauderdale County Engineer Neal Carson said once the repaving is complete, county crews will start paving dirt roads in District 3, where they left off when winter settled in. Last year, one road was paved in District 1 and several in District 5, so after District 3, county crews will move on to Districts 2 and 4.
He said overlays were to begin last week, but county crews didn't get to them.
The work most likely will not cause any county roads to be closed while they are being worked on. Weather conditions have to be right for resurfacing.
He said any bridges or culverts on the roads will be included in the overlays. He said it should take about two months to complete the repaving if the weather holds out.
He said the resurfacing is funded by a $3.4 million road bond supervisors issued in 2000 for the 2000-2004 term.
Carson said determining a priority list for what gets repaved each year and what is held until subsequent years is a lengthy process.
