Northeast Jones shuts out Quitman in division action

The Quitman Panthers dropped a 4-0 decision to Northeast Jones Monday, dropping their record to 5-2 on the season and 0-1 in Division 5-4A play.
Jason Ford picked up the win for NE Jones, while Matthew Creighton (2-1) suffered the loss for the Panthers.
The Panthers play again today at home against Mendenhall.
Game time is 5 p.m.
Winston Academy 8, Central Academy 2: Winston pounded out nine hits as it cruised to victory.
Jay McMillian picked up the win while Von Gomel (1-1) took the loss.
Tony Sudduth and Cameron Triplett each had hits for Central.
The Vikings host a doubleheader against Victory Christian today.
Lake 10, Scott Central 4: Lake improved to 4-2 with the win over its cross-county rival.
Jake Nester (1-0) was the winning pitcher while Scott Central's Nic Laster was charged with the loss.
Nester also had two RBIs and a home run for Lake.
Craig Martin, Bryan Williamson, Eric Gunn and Brandon Burris all had two hits each for Lake.
Lake has a 3:30 showdown with St. Joseph's in Jackson today.
In other games, Neshoba Central lost to Kosciusko 5-1.
Fast-pitch softball
Clarkdale 19, Choctaw Central 1: Emily Howard improved to 7-0 on the mound with the win for the Lady Bulldogs.
Clarkdale (10-0) got two hits apiece from Howard, Casey Meador, Megan Potate and Ashley Shelby. Jor'Dan Orr added a triple.
Clarkdale travels to Hillcrest, Ala. Friday night.
Neshoba Central 14, Louisville 3: Lindsey Smith picked up the win for Neshoba while Faith Whitfield suffered the loss for Louisville.
Smith, Jennifer Walker and Erin Benson each had doubles for Neshoba Central. Walker had three RBIs for the 1-1 Lady Rockets, who took advantage of 13 walks.
Neshoba hosts Northeast Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
