The Meridian Community College Eagles salvaged a road split of Jefferson State College Thursday afternoon.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Eagles (9-5) took the lead for good by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Freshman Tyler Scarbrough of Meridian High, who is now batting .405 on the year, hit a two-run home run and the Eagle pitching held the lead in the 2-1 win.
Curt Mclellan improved to 2-2 for MCC with a complete-game four hitter. He also struck out six Jefferson hitters on the day, while walking only one. J-State's Eric Roberts was saddled with the loss.
Josh Raggio added a double at the plate for the Eagles.
Game 1: Jefferson St. 9, MCC 2: Jefferson jumped on MCC's pitching in the second inning with a four-run frame the Eagles weren't able to recover from.
MCC did get two-baggers from Scarbrough, Ben Shannon and Antoin Gray that helped them forge a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull to within 4-2.
But it wouldn't be enough, as Jefferson scored a total of five more runs over the next two innings. Kenny Thompson picked up the win for the hosts.
Martin LaRocca (2-1) took the loss on the hill for the Eagles, going five innings for coach Russ McNickle, striking out two, walking two and allowing the 5-2 lead.
The Eagles will play a doubleheader at Scaggs Field against Lincoln Trail Saturday beginning at noon.
