CLINTON The Jones County Junior College Bobcats advanced to the semifinals of the Region 23 men's basketball tournament Monday with a 108-101 win over Delgado.
The Bobcats got off to a slow start and trailed 52-45 at the halftime break. But thanks to a high-scoring offensive attack led by LaCederick Pettway, who put up a game-high 26 points, Jones was able to rally in the second half for the win.
Along with Pettway's 26, the Bobcats ( 20-10) got 17 points from former Heidelberg High School standout Scottie Faulkner, 16 from Nick Paige of Bay Springs and 12 from Jermaine Sherman.
Delgado was led by Jerome LaGrange with 24 points.
The Bobcats will face the winner of Monday's late game between Co-Lin Community College and Pearl River Community College at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Today's games: There are four women's games on tap today in the Region 23 tourney, and two of them involve area teams.
After the Northwest and Itawamba women tangle at 1 p.m., Meridian Community College takes on Pearl River at 3 p.m.
The night session has East Central battling MACJC state champion Jones County at 6 p.m., followed by nationally-ranked Copiah-Lincoln taking on Northeast at 8 p.m.
East Central's women, despite an upset loss in the state tournament, were nationally-ranked most of the season and sport a 19-5 record that includes two wins over Jones, which is 22-7.
Men's and women's semifinals are Wednesday and the finals of both brackets are Thursday.
