JACKSON Choctaw Central's Lady Warriors have lived by the press and the 3-point basket during Willis Tullos' years as their coach.
It has been a deadly combination as Choctaw Central has been to the state tournament five of the last six years, winning three state championships.
In Saturday night's 72-67 loss to Southeast Lauderdale in the semifinals of the Class 3A state tournament, the 3-point shot deserted the Lady Warriors.
Choctaw Central was a dismal 4-of-21 from beyond the arc as the Lady Warriors finished their year with a 31-5 record.
Many of the missed bombs came on wide-open shots.
Trailing 59-50 with 5:27 to play and with Southeast already in the double bonus, Tullos knew his team was in big trouble.
Losing Crystal Lewis for a while in the second quarter due to an ankle injury didn't help the Lady Warriors any.
Southeast and Choctaw finished their season's wars knotted at two wins apiece.
