The Meridian Star's coverage area is well-represented on the Mississippi Association of Coaches All-State Soccer Team, which was announced earlier this week.
Midfielder Todd Doolittle of West Lauderdale was a first-team selection on the Class 1A-2A-3A boys' squad, while Ole Miss signee Ramey Rush of Meridian High was a first-team choice on the Class 5A girls' team as a midfielder.
Defender Casey Abrams made the Class 4A girls' first-team from Northeast Lauderdale.
Doolittle stepped up his play in helping West Lauderdale to a third straight appearance in a state championship game. Rush was a long-time fixture for the Lady Wildcats and helped Meridian to the Class 5A title game this past season, while Abrams helped the Lady Trojans reach the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.
Other players who were honored include:
Defender Ben Snyder and midfielder Brian Stringer of Northeast Lauderdale, who were second-team members of the Class 4A boys' squad;
Forward David Pruitt of Clarkdale, who was named as an honorable mention choice on the Class 1A-2A-3A boys' team;
Elyse Parker of Northeast Lauderdale, who was a second-team selection on the Class 4A girls' squad; and
Midfielder Morgan Wright and forward Bethany Spidle of Clarkdale, who were honorable-mention selections on the Class 1A-2A-3A girls' squad.
Abrams and Snyder were also honorable-mention selections as defenders.
