From staff reports
Feb. 28, 2001
Police are looking for two black men wanted in connection with two separate robberies late Monday.
Reports said about 9 p.m. at Blanks Motel occupants responded to a knock and a voice asking for someone they did not know. When they opened their door, police said a man brandishing a handgun forced his way inside and demanded money.
The victims reportedly gave up their belongings, and the culprit escaped on foot.
Minutes later at a Meridian package liquor store, police said a separate suspect walked into the store raising his shirt, displaying a handgun.
The clerk, reports said, sounded an alarm and the suspect fled westward on foot without taking any money or harming the clerk.
The suspect being sought in the motel incident is reported to have been about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing between 160-170 pounds and looked to be in his late 20s to early 30s. He was said to be of "medium to muscular" build wearing a short-sleeve blue shirt. He reportedly fled on foot.
In the attempted armed robbery at Jack's Package Store at 2516 Eighth St. police said the suspect was described by the clerk as about 5 feet 10 inches tall to 6 feet tall and in his early to mid 20s. He was reportedly wearing a jersey T-shirt, blue jeans and a baseball cap.
