QUITMAN A giant flea market will be part of the town's Centennial Celebration weekend, set for March 31-April 1.
All proceeds will benefit the Watkins Hospital Restoration Foundation.
Kramer said that the foundation plans to use the money to replace the hospital beds, which cost about $3,000 apiece.
The flea market committee is requesting household furnishings, home decorative items, kitchen items, small and large appliances, bathroom items, flowers and plants, outdoor tools, light fixtures, lamps, "what-nots" and baby and children's clothes but not adult clothing.
The flea market will be set up at the old J&D Furniture Store on Church Street.
The Centennial Weekend officially gets under way Saturday, March 31, with a parade at 10 a.m. and a historical skit on the courthouse lawn at 1 p.m. There will also be activities for all ages, including train rides, games and exhibits.
On Sunday, April 1, the town will hold an old-fashioned community dinner on the grounds at the pecan grove at First Baptist Church. The dinner starts at noon.
For more information, call Quitman City Hall at 776-3728, Bea Reynolds at 776-3843 and Helen Ann Beeman at 776-6196.
