Meridian police are investigating an early morning accident in which a man was struck by a car. Lt. Wade Johnson said the accident occurred at the intersection of Fifth Street and Highway 11 South about 5:30 a.m.
Johnson said 21-year-old Travis Thompson of Meridian was reportedly driving south on Highway 11 South when his vehicle struck the man.
The man was walking west at the time of the accident, Johnson said. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital by Metro Ambulance. His condition was unknown at press time.
Johnson said the department's accident investigation team was dispatched to investigate.
At press time, Meridian police had been unsuccessful at notifying the pedestrian's family. The man's name and further details surrounding the accident will be made available after police have notified family members, Johnson said.
