Stuckey Bridge Road opened
Stuckey Bridge Road is open to travel effective immediately. The bridge repairs have been completed, according to the Lauderdale County Engineer Neil Carson.
Local blood drives
There will be a blood drive today at the Bonita Walmart from 3 p.m.-6:30 p.m. in the bloodmobile. Donors will receive a T-shirt and a pizza coupon.
The Butler Community blood drive will take place on Thursday at the Butler Volunteer Fire Department in the bloodmobile from 11 a.m-6:30 p.m. Choctaw County residents are encouraged to donate. There will be door prizes and refreshments.
Meridian Community College will host a blood drive Thursday and Friday at the banquet room of the Student Union Building from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Donors will receive T-shirts, pizza coupons and door prizes. The public is invited to donate along with MCC students and staff. Help assure blood is available for hospital patients.

Humane society meeting tonight
The Lauderdale County "Dumpster Dog" Humane Society will meet today at 7 p.m. in the courthouse annex. All interested residents are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Cheryl Walton, 644-9924.
Mardi Gras run
A masked man will ride horseback throughout downtown Meridian Friday from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. He will be collecting food gifts for Love's Kitchen. This Mardi Gras tradition comes from Courir Du Mardi Gras masked men rode through their neighborhoods looking for ingredients for gumbo. The masked man will stop at Union Station, Front Street, Lauderdale County Courthouse at 6th Street, City Hall at 7th Street and Dumont Plaza at 22nd Avenue. Community members are invited to gather at the designated stops to greet the horseman and make your donation during the lunch hour Friday. Mardi Gras block party
A Mardi Gras block party will be held Saturday at 6:30 p.m., at Dumont Plaza in downtown Meridian. There will be live onstage entertainment, including Secondhand Heros, Rose Ledet and the Whodaddys. Mardi Gras-style food and beverages will be prepared at downtown restaurants. Admission is free. Local businesses may hang a Mardi Gras event poster, decorate a storefront and use the Mardi Gras theme for a weekend promotion or sale. Beauty and talent contest
The Parents' Service Club of The Boys and Girls Club of Clarke County will host the first annual beauty and talent contest at Quitman High School Auditorium on March 17 at 6 p.m. Boys and girls ages 3-17 and 18-20, for the talent contest only, may enter. Applications may be picked up at The Boys and Girls Club of Clarke County Monday-Friday from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Deadline for entries is Saturday and the individual fee is $10 and prizes will be awarded.
Local theater
The Choice, a live drama with a cast of 160, will be held at the Evangel Temple Church Saturday and Sunday. The show begins at 7 p.m.
Dixie baseball registration
The West Lauderdale Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys Baseball will hold registration for 5-14 year olds, Saturday, Feb. 17 and Feb. 24 at West Lauderdale Middle School Gym. Registration will take place from 9 a.m.-noon.

MSO to present third concert
The Meridian Symphony Orchestra will present the third concert of the 40th anniversary season on Saturday at Meridian Community College's Ivy Hall Theatre. Curtain time is 8 p.m.
The concert, "American Influences," will feature guest artist Christopher Rex. A preconcert lecture led by Maestro Claire Fox Hillard begins at 7 p.m. in the Casteel Gallery in the MCC library.
Tickets may be purchased at the door for $15, $12 for seniors/military and $8 for students. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
2nd Mile to perform at EMCC
East Mississippi Community College will host a gospel concert Saturday featuring the group 2nd Mile. The concert will take place in the Stennis Auditorium on the Scooba campus. Proceeds from the event go to the EMCC's Chapel in the Pines project, an interdenominational chapel to be built on the Scooba campus. Admission is $10. For more information, call (662) 476-5060.
Voters League meeting
The new Voters League meeting will be held Saturday at the Boys' and Girls' Club Building at 10 a.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend in order to learn about the upcoming special election to be held on April 17.
Indian artifact show
An Indian artifact show will be held Sunday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Jackson Community House in Alabama. There will be 20-30 exhibitors displaying their collections. This will be one of the largest displays of privately owned artifacts in the Southeastern United States. The show is sponsored by The Rebel State Archeological Society of Alabama. Planning committee meeting

Meridian WalkAmerica meeting
The Meridian WalkAmerica kick off will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, on the fifth floor of Citizen's National Bank located at 22nd Avenue at 5:30 p.m. At the meeting, you will receive information on the Meridian WalkAmerica that will take place Saturday, April 28, 2001.
