Trojans rally to knock off Enterprise Bulldogs

The Enterprise Bulldogs and Northeast Lauderdale Trojans both entered Monday night's matchup coming off wins, but something had to give in the teams' fourth meeting of the season.
Monday night's game was by far the closest of the four, with Northeast using a 28-22 fourth quarter rally to take the 76-66 victory.
Trojans head coach Lewis Lightsey knew the game would be tough. "It's hard to beat a team four times in a row. They came in on a winning streak, and we've been having some hard times lately. I thought we had a good stretch in the first half. Jamaal [Martin] hit a few threes. We were working the ball on the inside. They made a good run and tightened it up at the half, but I think our press just wore them down."
Northeast jumped out to an early 20-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, only to see the Bulldogs come from behind in the second with help from two Cory Boggan 3-pointers. Enterprise outscored the Trojans 18-14 in the second period.
Northeast headed into the locker room with a slim 34-30 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs gave the Trojans more of the same in the third. Northeast rallied to take an eight-point lead, only to see Enterprise come storming back once again. The difference at the end of three quarters still stood at four.
The Trojans entered the final quarter of play by stepping up the defense. However, Enterprise kept the game close, pulling to within two.
But Jimmy Kelly scored 14 points in the quarter to help the Trojans outscore the Bulldogs and grab the win.
The Bulldogs (11-17) were paced by Boggan's 27 points and Burrell Gandy's 24. They host Richton tonight at home.
Kelly led Northeast with 28 points, Martin added 15, and Clinton Hales chipped in 12. The Trojans (16-11) will host Kemper on Friday.
Northeast Lauderdale girls 55, Enterprise 37: Northeast entered Monday night's contest against the Lady Bulldogs hoping to rebound from their division loss to Northeast Jones.
The Lady Trojans (20-9) did just that by taking the 55-37 victory.
Northeast jumped out to an early 16-4 first quarter lead with baskets from Quin Jackson, Dorecious Powe and Crystal Hopson.
Enterprise answered in the second with key shots by Shonda Bester. Lady Bulldogs were able to cut into the NEL lead in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Trojans 9-8. However, Northeast took a 26-13 lead at the intermission.
EHS continued to keep its hopes alive in the third quarter as Bester paced the Lady Bulldogs with six points. Enterprise once again outscored the Lady Trojans by only a point.
Northeast pulled away in the fourth quarter though, as it outscored the Lady Bulldogs 18-12 en route to the 55-37 win.
Enterprise coach Tommy Perkins was proud of the effort put forth by his team. "These girls played hard, and I am proud of them for doing that."
Enterprise (5-26) was led by Jerra Cook's 10 points.
Dorecious Powe, Quin Jackson, and Crystal Hopson contributed 15 apiece for the Lady Trojans.
