The Rush/Jay Powell Baseball Camp is getting nearer.
Saturday's camp at West Lauderdale High School is expected to draw more than 400 youngsters. But before that, Powell will also be at Rush Hospital for a luncheon and reception Friday at noon.
Powell, the ex-West Lauderdale and Mississippi State star who now pitches for the Houston Astros, and a host of guests will be on hand at the camp to give young baseball hopefuls instruction.
For those wishing to attend the camp, registration begins at 8:30 a.m., Saturday. The registration fee is $35, which includes a camp T-shirt and lunch. The camp runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the United Way of Lauderdale County.
Members of the United Way staff will join Powell for Friday's lunch, as will the Meridian Optimist Rookie 7-and-8-year old tournament winners.
For more information about the camp or lunch, you can visit the Rush website at www.rushhospital.org, or you can contact Desiree' Reynolds at the Rush Public Relations office at (601) 482-9644.
