Mary Holmes women no match for Lady Eagles

Meridian Community College tuned up for Saturday's homecoming date with Jones with a Miss-Lou Conference sweep of Mary Holmes Tuesday at MCC's Ivy Sports Center.
The Lady Eagles coasted to an 83-49 win, while the Eagles posted an 83-78 victory over the West Point squad.
The Lady Eagles improved to 18-4 overall and 3-0 in the Miss-Lou as they jumped out to a 49-20 halftime lead.
Former West Lauderdale standout Eva Lockhart led MCC with 13 points. Teasha McFarland scored 12 and Tijwana Collins of Meridian scored 10. Ericka Starks had nine and Tommie Walden added seven. Catesha Riley, Milini Tims, and Lawanda Holder each had six points.
Monickia Fresby had a game-high 13 rebounds for MCC.
Mary Holmes, 0-3 and 0-2, was led by Tameka Taylor's 12 points.
The Eagles won a physical battle with Mary Holmes in the men's game with Rocky Lane's 30 points leading the way. Marcus Doss tossed in 21, Sammie Cole of Meridian had 17, Northeast Lauderdale's Robert Ivy added nine, and Ced Drake had six.
MCC improved to 1-2 in the Miss-Lou despite having two players out with the flu.
Mary Holmes got 20 points from Robert Jackson, 17 from Yance Marrah, 15 from Michael Jones, 14 from Theran Floyd, and nine from Jamar Hill.
The game was tied at 44-44 at halftime. Lane had 16 points in the first half for MCC, while Doss tallied 15 in the second half.
MCC will host Jones Saturday for homecoming. The women's game is set for 1 p.m., with the men's at 3 p.m. The queen will be crowned during halftime of the men's game.
