Former JB Sportswear employees may be eligible for benefits

JACKSON Former employees of JB Sportswear in Union who lost their jobs during the recent closing of the plant may be eligible for additional benefits.
Anyone who was laid off or had their hours reduced at the plant after Oct. 10, 1999, should contact the Mississippi Employment Security Commission (483-1406) to see if they qualify through the federal Trade Act.
Money, training and other benefits are available to workers who lose their jobs or hours as a result of increased imports. The JB Sportswear employees produced knit placket shirts. Imports of that product have increased significantly in recent years and have resulted in the loss of domestic jobs. Usually, Trade Act benefits are paid after regular unemployment benefits are exhausted, and if the individual is enrolled in an approved training program.
