It was business as usual for the Southeast Lauderdale Lady Tigers Friday night as Monique Horner tossed in 48 points to lead the Lady Tigers to a 77-52 win over county-rival Clarkdale.
In the boys game, the Tigers completed the sweep of the host Clarkdale Bulldogs with a 87-71 victory.
Southeast girls 77, Clarkdale 52- Horner scored 12 three-pointers to pace the Lady Tigers to the 25-point victory. Horner's effort was two off the state record of 14.
Clarkdale coach Jeff Davis saw too much Horner for his young Lady Bulldogs. "Horner had a big game, we were in her hip pocket. No matter what we did, she still scored," said Davis.
Aside from Horner's offensive exploits, Southeast coach Joe Miller wanted more from his team.
Clarkdale got within 13 points in the third quarter. But each time the Lady Bulldogs got some momentum going, Horner would sink one from downtown to keep Southeast in control.
The Lady Bulldogs got a good offensive effort from JorD'an Orr, who hit for 21 points and got good all-around play from Carmelita Naylor.
Lesley Ruffin added 14 points to the Lady Tigers' effort.
Southeast boys 87, Clarkdale 71: The Tigers used a big second half to take the victory.
Ben Reed got hot in the third quarter on his way to a game high 30 points to put the Bulldogs on their heels and opened up what was a very close contest.
Trailing by two points, 37-35, at the halftime, Clarkdale lost the turnover battle in the third quarter and Southeast capitalized with 5 three-point shots to take command of the game.
The Tigers continued their red-hot shooting in the fourth quarter from the three-point arc, Reed Anthony Horner and Doug Rowe sank key shots to keep the Bulldogs at bay.
Beside Reed's 30, Rowe added 19 and Horner 16 for the Tigers. Jonathan Russell pitched in 10.
Clarkdale was led by Anthony Holiday with 22, followed by Jamie Followay with 18 and Richard Matthews 15.
