Gospel singing to benefit King's Academy
A gospel singing is scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Way. The event will feature Carl Fitzgerald, "The Last Call" Gospel Trio, the Crystal River Quartet and a few solo guests will perform. The public is invited to the concert, and all donations will be given to King's Academy. For more information, call 693-2816.
SBA to close Meridian disaster office
The Small Business Administration loan assistance office at the Lauderdale Emergency Management Agency, located at 1319 23rd Avenue, will close Thursday, Jan. 25. The Meridian office has been open since Dec. 28. Loan applications and program information will remain available by calling the SBA help line at 1-800-359-2227. The phone line is open from 6 a.m.-4 p.m. (Central time). The deadline for SBA assistance for physical damage is Feb. 23, 2001.
Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Symposium
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Symposium will be held Tuesday from 7:45 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Meridian Branch of Mississippi State University. Rush Foundation Hospital designates each session for 1 CME credit for each full hour session attended. This workshop has also been approved for 5 contact hours of continuing education. The symposium is presented by East Mississippi State Hospital, an agency of The Mississippi State Department of Mental Health, and Rush Foundation Hospital. Dr. Tom Milhorn in special program
Lifetime Quest at Meridian Community College will feature Dr. Tom Milhorn in a special program Wednesday at 2 p.m. He will give a speech, read from "Caduceus Awry," answer questions and sign books. Milhorn is a native of Kingsport, Tenn. and a resident of Meridian.
The event will take place in the Meridian Room, at the Meridian Hall on campus. Lifetime Quest will have books for sale and the public is invited. For more information, call Michele Thames at 484-8696.

Saturday, Jan. 27, Boy Scout Merit Badge University from 8 a.m.-noon. Boy Scouts will work on earning different badges from archery to woodworking with MCC faculty and staff members serving as instructors. Classes will be held on different sites on the MCC campus. Mississippi Academy of Sciences annual meeting
The Mississippi Academy of Sciences will meet Feb. 8-9 at the Ramada Inn and Convention Center in Tupelo. Presentations by established scientists, science educators and students will offer an opportunity for people in all sciences, science education, private industry and government to discuss and exchange ideas.

Free tax service for seniors
Starting the first Tuesday in February, senior citizens will have access to free tax service. AARP volunteers will be available every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Meridian Lauderdale County Public Library and every Friday at the Highway 19 N Trustmark National Bank from 9 a.m-1 p.m. This service will be available until April 15.
Red Cross announces need for O+ and O-
The Red Cross is asking people to donate blood at the United Blood Services at 1115 25th Ave. Because of the increased usage of blood by the hospitals and the decrease in donations, there is a critical need for blood. All types are needed, especially O+ and O-.

Disaster center announces new location
Two centers opened by the American Red Cross Service have been consolidated and relocated to the American Red Cross Key Chapter Office, 1711 24th Ave. in Meridian. The center will be open from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary gifts of time and money. Anyone who received damage during the Dec. 16 tornado should contact the service center as soon as possible at 482-1827.
Timber tax fundamentals class
Mississippi State University Extension is holding a forestry short course on Timber Tax Fundamentals. The course will be taught on interactive video at Neshoba Central High School.
