Repaving work on Lauderdale County roads has been delayed by recent rains, but County Engineer Neal Carson expects work to resume in about a month.
Lauderdale County supervisors amended the 2001 road paving program earlier this week, adding a number of new roads to a program funded from a four-year $3.4 million bond issue. The project covers work through 2004.
He said crews will be working in all five districts, but they won't jump from district to district. Instead, resurfacing is done by area starting from one point and moving to the next nearest project no matter which district it's in.
Dirt road paving will begin in District 3, which is where the paving stopped last summer. Dirt roads were paved in Districts 2 and 4 before crews got to District 3.
He said supervisors can add or delete roads at any time, and there is always the possibility a road might get bumped to the next year or several years to the next bond issue.
He said supervisors' ultimate goal is to have all the county's dirt roads paved.
