Lady Warriors tame PRC

POPLARVILLE The East Central Community College Lady Warriors continued their dominance in the South division with a 64-48 whipping of the Pearl River Community College Lady Wildcats in Thursday night Junior College basketball action.
The Lady Warriors (13-3, 4-1 in the South Division) stormed out to a 31-22 lead at halftime. Margo Porter paced ECCC with a 15 point, six-rebound effort. Nicole Cox chipped in with 13 points.
The Lady Wildcats (9-7, 2-3), who fell behind by as many as 18 in the second half, were led Mindy Ladner's 12 points and nine boards.
ECCC sent the Lady Wildcats to their fifth straight loss, despite an shooting just 11-of-23 from the free throw line.
Alberta Norman also put in 10 points and five boards for the Lady Warriors
Pearl River men 82, East Central 70: The Warriors trailed 44-40 at the break, but the Wildcats pulled away in the latter stage of the second half.
The Warriors led for the first 11 minutes of the contest, but Wand Steward, who collected 23 points and six assists, nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to give PRCC (13-3, 5-0) a 26-23 lead with 8:30 to go in the first half. Taboris Lindsey torched the Warriors with 27.
Winfred Craig who scored nine hit a trey less than two minutes later that gave East Central its last lead at 31-30. The final score represented Pearl River's largest lead of the game. The Wildcats shot 20-of-24 free throws, while ECC hit 7-of-12.
East Central fell to 9-8 and 1-5 on the year, as Markeith Brown pumped in 19 points. James Denson and Chris Webb added 13 and 11 respectively, for the Warriors, who return home to face Hinds Mon. at 6 and 8 p.m.
