County teachers appeal for more pay

By By Kelly Quackenbush/The Meridian Star

A request for increases in a local supplement to teachers' salaries was taken under advisement Thursday by the Lauderdale County school board.
Lauren Wells, president of the Lauderdale County Federation of Teachers, appealed to the board for pay increases for teachers in the county system.
Wells said it was hard to keep quality teachers in the school system. She focused on the pressure teachers face and how they do not receive enough incentive to do their jobs.
She reported the constant strain of keeping first year teachers and teachers who have taught for years in Lauderdale County schools.
