A Meridian woman and her two young children were transported to Riley Hospital Tuesday afternoon after their sport utility vehicle was involved in an collision with an 18-wheeler log truck.
Meridian police officer Jay Arrington of the traffic division said Theresa A. Clark was southbound on Highway 19 South at about 2 p.m. when the collision occurred with a log truck driven by Othel Matlock of Hickory.
None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, but the children were shaken and complaining of pain, Arrington said. One child was secured in a child restraint seat, the other was belted in, he said. Clark was also wearing a seatbelt.
Matlock was treated for injuries on the scene and then released.
The accident caused Matlock's 18-wheeler to jack-knife when he had to lock his breaks in an attempt to avoid a collision with Clark's 1995 Ford Explorer, Arrington said. The truck, which belongs to R.K. Trucking in Hickory, was not loaded at the time of the accident, he said.
Arrington said the accident backed up traffic along Highway 19 South for about an hour.
The Meridian Fire Department and Metro Ambulance also responded to the accident.
