Fifteen Meridian Community college students are on their way to Florida. It's not that they are taking an early spring break, but they are traveling South to enhance their educational opportunities.
Through the College Program, students are provided a unique living experience in a multicultural environment, while offered a curriculum including classes, on-line learning, distance learning and experimental learning. In addition, students are cast in the Walt Disney World theme park and resorts.
Introduced in 1980, the College Program started with 250 students. Today, more than 6,500 students participate annually.
While living, working and learning in the Orlando-based resort, students earn $6 an hour for a 30-hour work week. All majors are encouraged to apply especially students studying hospitality, hotel and restaurant management, business, communication, theater/drama and recreation.
To apply, a student must be currently enrolled in a college, have at least one semester of study completed and must be in good academic standing holding a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
