War Eagle booster glad to see hire made from within

During the past few football seasons, Wayne County High radio announcer Kenny Odom said he spent a good bit of time working on deer patches and while on the air talking as much about hunting and NASCAR as he did about football.
But during the 2000 season, Odom concentrated on football, and for good reason.
Wayne County, under the direction of Bobby Hall, finished 10-3 and came within a touchdown of making the South State championship game losing 21-14 to eventual Class 5A state champ Moss Point in the playoffs.
Odom, who helps with the school's booster club, is one of several War Eagle fans who didn't want school officials to go outside the program to hire a new coach after Hall left earlier this week. He got his wish.
Friday, Wayne County announced the hiring of Marcus Boyles, an assistant last season, and Odom says he thinks Boyles will pick right up where Hall left off.
Odom said he thought it would have been a step in the wrong direction for the program to hire outside.
Boyles agreed with Odom, and said he didn't anticipate many staff changes.
