Before the 2000 soccer season started, Meridian Community College men's coach Steve Clements said his team had what it took to win the NJCAA National Soccer Tournament.
He was right.
The Eagles, who finished the year with a school-record 24-1 mark, won the NJCAA National Championship with a 2-0 win over Bryant &Stratton (N.Y.) at the Tyler Junior College Soccer Complex in Tyler, Texas.
Three of the Eagles were named to the All-Tournament Team. MCC's Ryan Simms and Andrew McLeod were joined on the team by tournament Most Valuable Player Damani Ralph.
The National Championship came in the program's seventh season all led by Clements, who has a 125-32-1 all-time record.
MCC has also won National Championships in Men's Indoor Track and Field and Women's Slow-Pitch Softball.
