By Staff
Dec. 30, 2000
Two United Way Agencies the Mental Health Association in Lauderdale County and the Multi-County Community Service Agency  will co-sponsor a series of four workshops for licensed social workers beginning in January.
Under the general theme of "Serving the Changing Family in the Year 2001: An Ecological-Developmental Approach," faculty from the University of Southern Mississippi's School of Social Work, will teach the sessions.
The series is designed for licensed social workers, but may also benefit others who work in the mental health, medical or educational fields.
The four sessions will help participants learn how to build relationships with families, help identify family developmental needs, increase awareness and knowledge and to build "family friendly" techniques.
The first workshop, An Overview of Family Approach through Empowerment and Advocacy, will be held on Friday, Jan. 19. The second workshop, Families with Young Children, will be held on Friday, Feb. 16. The third, Families with Adolescents and Young Adults, will be held on Friday, March 16. The final workshop, Mature Families, will be held on Friday, April 20.
Each session is 8 a.m.-2:45 p.m. and will be held at Riley Medical Offices Building, in the Nursing Education Classroom. Each workshop is worth .5 SWUs and 5 contact hours with the Department of Mental Health. The cost per session is $50.00, if paid at least a week in advance.
