Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck hopes to gather information in a series of meetings early next year that will produce legislative initiatives to encourage the growth of small businesses and entrepreneurship.
Tuck announced Tuesday she and other state officials will visit Meridian on Feb. 19 in one of six stops on an "Entrepreneurship Tour." The Meridian meeting is scheduled at Union Station, 9-10:30 a.m.
Tuck and the Mississippi Economic Council hope to gather information from local participants on how state policy can enhance the growth of small businesses.
A spokesman for Tuck said the lieutenant governor worked to include Meridian and East Mississippi in the program because she believes the area is primed for progress. They hope to gain insight from local business owners leading toward a statewide conference next fall on small business issues. The work product of the conference could be new initiatives to help small businesses grow and prosper in Mississippi in the 21st century.
Representatives of several state agencies are also expected to participate in the tour, which includes other stops in January and February in Tupelo, Greenwood, the Gulf Coast, Brookhaven and Jackson.
