Dalewood sewer proposal faces rough sledding

By By Sheila Blackmon/The Meridian Star
Dec. 22, 2000
Members of the Dalewood Property Owners Association want Lauderdale County supervisors' help in getting their own sewer district but they say they will pay for construction themselves.
Association member Ed Gennette presented a petition to supervisors at a meeting earlier this week.
Gennette said association members think they have found a company to finance construction. He said they would borrow the money then pay it back with membership dues. He asked the board of supervisors how the association could get their own district.
Board attorney Rick Barry said the first step is supervisors' accepting the petition which they did. Next, they would have to issue a resolution of intent and hold a public hearing to gauge county residents' support and objections. Then they would have to issue a second resolution to create the district. The process is much like establishing a new fire district, he said.
District 5 Supervisor Ray Boswell said later he favors helping the members, but not at any expense to the county.
Other supervisors could not be reached for comment.
