Adoption of an updated fire code for the city is among the agenda items tonight at the Meridian City Council's regularly scheduled meeting.
The city's current set of codes was approved in 1997. It is unclear what changes will be made to the existing codes.
Fire department issues aren't the only ones to be addressed by the council. Council members are also expected to approve the purchase of new police department training equipment. The police department is asking the city to approve the purchase of some digital video equipment that will be part of a new law enforcement training simulator.
The council will also be asked to approve payment for engineering services done in conjunction with the new Wal-Mart Super Center site on Frontage Road. Local firm Engineering Plus, Inc. has been working on certain infrastructure design elements for the new store that had to be done.
Council members may tackle issues regarding the city's Internet and e-mail policies.
For several weeks the council has been looking into the city's inter-office e-mail and Internet policies at the bequest of Chief Administrative Officer Ken Storms. City leaders had been examining the policies to ensure that city employees were not abusing Internet or e-mail privileges.
City employees are being asked to sign a form allowing for superiors to check their e-mails and Internet records if a violation of the city's policies are suspected.
