Trojans knock off Braves

After winning against Northeast Jones on Tuesday, the Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojan soccer team was looking to improve their record against South Jones on Thursday night in a non-district match-up. They did that by defeating the Lady Braves 8-0.
First year coach Charles Coleman pointed out that the spark behind the Lady Trojans' fire tonight was due to the injury of team member April Harper.
Harper was hit in the head by two defenders as she lowered her head to head the ball and suffered a severe concussion on Tuesday night at Northeast Jones. She was released from the hospital on Thursday.
Northeast Lauderdale lead the way during the entire game, as South Jones only had one shot at the goal during the entire evening. The Lady Trojans' first goal came on a Capri Norris shot. It marked only the second goal of her career. Danielle Smith added four goals, three of those coming consecutively in the first half. Elyse Parker added two in the second half along with Kristina Barrett's goal in the first. Katie Bergin has three assist on the evening.  Haylie Smith contributed with one assist.
The Lady Trojans (6-2-2) will host Clarkdale on January 5, 2001. The Lady Braves (3-2) will be playing in the Laurel Tournament at Jones Junior college this weekend.
Northeast boys 3, South Jones 0: The Trojans improved to 5-3 Thursday night with a shutout victory over the visiting Braves.
The Trojans' first score came on a direct kick by Brian Stringer. Later in the first half, Marcio Fuca made it 2-0 when he scored off an assist from Kyle Stoddard.
Russell Huntley scored the game's final goal in the second half.
Northeast controlled the ball for most of the game outshooting South Jones 16-1.
The Trojans' next game will be in the Meridian Christmas tournament at Northeast Park.
