An early morning traffic accident on Minnow Bucket Road Sunday claimed the life of an 18-year-old Meridian man.
Jason Charles Bagley of 5114 Shoemate Road was killed about 9:30 a.m. just west of Null Road after the 1987 Toyota Corolla he was driving left the road and struck an embankment.
Bagley's body was found about 30 feet away from the wreckage. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Lauderdale County Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Clayton Cobler.
Sheriff Billy Sollie said Bagley was headed west and was about 2 miles from U.S. Highway 45 North when the accident occurred. Sollie said the accident is under investigation, and hopes an autopsy will shed some light on the cause of the crash.
Traffic was re-routed Sunday on Minnow Bucket Road until about 10:15 a.m. so deputies and firefighters from Lauderdale VFD could clear the road.
The accident brings the number of fatalities on Lauderdale County roads this year to six, Sollie said.
Funeral arrangements for Bagley were incomplete this morning. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
