Public riding at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center has been closed until county officials can determine whether existing insurance covers injuries riders or horses may suffer there.
County Administrator Rex Hiatt said he met with Agri-Center Director Buddy Scott and suggested he close the arena to public riding.
The Agri-Center staff had recently announced winter riding hours effective until April 1, 2001.
Groups and organizations can still book the Agri-Center if they have certificates of insurance, Hiatt said.
He said the insurance meeting will be held Dec. 18. The county's local insurance agent is from Meyer and Rosenbaum, and insurance is provided through the St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company.
The meeting's results will determine when the arena will re-open to public riding, but Hitt said the closing is temporary.
